About Malawi IGF
The Malawi Internet Governance Forum (MIGF) is a multistakeholder forum that has been held since 2014 to discuss issues of Internet governance that affect Malawi and the region as a whole. Malawi Internet Governance Forum was established in 2014. It adheres to the principles of the global Internet Governance Forum, along with all other national and regional IGFs, of being:
- Open and transparent,
- Inclusive,
- Non-commercial,
- Bottom up and
- Multistakeholder.
Malawi IGF was established with a main objective of creating a unique discussion arena for the respectful community of Malawi, to discuss issues pertaining to the Internet governance. More specifically, the Malawi Internet Governance Forum (MIGF) aims to;
- To increase awareness and build capacity on Internet Governance issues amongst stakeholders in Malawi.
- To facilitate the participation of a broad range of Malawian stakeholders in regional and global Internet Governance and ensure that national concerns are taken into account.
- To shape and inform national policy on development of the Internet and ICTs.
- To contribute to strengthening the multi-stakeholder dialogue model for Internet Governance in the SADC region and Africa.
- To provide a consultative and participatory platform for multi-stakeholder discussions and dialogue on Internet Governance issues.
Organizational structure
The first national IGF of Malawi IGF was organized by a multistakehoder Organizing Committee, with members coming from the following stakeholder groups:
- Government
- Private Sector
- Civil Society
- Technical Community
The work of the Organizing Committee was supported by the following stakeholders:
- Malawi Internet Service Providers Association (MISPA)
- Malawi ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM)
- Bankers Association of Malawi
- Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA)
- Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA)
- Council for Non-Governmental Organisations in Malawi (CONGOMA)
- The Malawi chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA- Malawi)
